Flower Power Essences for Children
Aticle originally published in Berkshire's Count Child Magazine.

For the sceptics, flower and vibrational essences will test your resolve. Children have no pre-conceptions of why they should choose a particular essence or if it will alter their behaviour or feelings. By Barbara Olive.
14 years ago when I had my first child, I became acutely aware of my responsibility to this new member of our family. I had been a charge nurse of an intensive care unit for most of my nursing career and responsible for the welfare of staff and patients. Nothing had prepared me for parenthood. The feeling was heightened when my child was diagnosed as having Attention Deficit Disorder. I didn’t want my son to have a cocktail of chemicals and so began my research away from what I had known of conventional medicine for the past 14 years. The positive results achieved by using flower essences were nothing less than phenomenal and the best part was if I gave my son the wrong essence it did absolutely nothing. Amazing, I couldn’t go wrong.
Why are there no physical side effects? Because the essence itself is made from the energy of the flower/environment or whatever is used to make the essence. The plant is not squashed, pulped and no ingredient is extracted in any way. The flower is traditionally floated on spring water and left in the sun, a snapshot of the flower is left in the form of energy in the water. So there are no chemical constituents. Dosage usually is a few drops twice a day. Because the child cannot overdose they can self -administer from a reasonable age. They love this, they are in control.
The effects vary with each person. Sometimes, it is so subtle it is only noticeable when you consider their behaviour over the previous weeks. There are many off-the-shelf products with generic names that will help you choose the perfect blend, or your child can choose their own blend. Using Intuits™ a tried and tested formula of numbers, they ask themselves what they need, pick some numbers given to them and hey presto, instant diagnosis of how they feel. Children find it difficult to tell you how they feel, sometimes they don’t even know the words to describe their fears. I realised this when my boys were both very young and was astonished to know that they were cranky with me, of all people! If all else fails and you want some help with this form of treatment, a qualified therapist can guide you and recommend the appropriate essence for your child or even help you cope with the traumas of being a parent. There are many different ways of choosing an appropriate essence. If you think this is what your child may need, give it a try, the proof is in the pudding, you won’t be disappointed.
